What I can do for parents:
Help parents to understand their child diagnosis.
Clarifying any worries that you might have.
Share positive stories and not just the negative ones. Provide realistic possibilities for the parents about their child.
Provide information about schools, associations, private tutoring, ASD-friendly doctors and therapists.
Support parents to understand their child’s Individual Learning Plan from school and whether the goals set out by school are the most beneficial one for the child’s well being.
Taking an holistic approach towards the child including the strength and interests but also the worries and stressors. Talking over with parents how to use their child strengths to overcome some of the barriers in school or at home.
Last but not least, I will just be there to listen, providing a safe place where you can be honest about what you are feeling as a parent without any judgement.
